Gareth specialises in commercial disputes, principally banking (including money laundering, asset tracing and freezing and disclosure orders), trusts, (re)insurance and professional negligence matters.
Expertise
Gareth acts for various local banks, trust companies and financial services businesses and has acted on some of the largest and most significant pieces of litigation to come before the Guernsey Courts over the past few years.
His recent cases include Duncan Barclay v Michael Beaumont, Seigneur of Sark; Soulbury v the Royal Bank of Scotland; the liquidation of Brownstone Insurance (Guernsey) Ltd; the Flightlease litigation stemming from the insolvency of SwissAir; acting for the Plaintiff institutional shareholder in a large investment fund dispute; defending several professional negligence claims brought against Independent Financial Advisers and lawyers; obtaining a freezing injunction and disclosure orders in support of a large contractual dispute being litigated in Jersey, and subsequently enforcing the Jersey judgment in Guernsey; and is acting for the Joint Administrators of Landsbanki (Guernsey) Limited (In Administration).
Gareth regularly writes articles on insurance, trusts and anti-money laundering matters (including articles published in the Lawyer magazine), and has spoken at various seminars and conferences on trusts and anti-money laundering issues. He is also a member of the Guernsey International Lawyers Association.
